Best Walks in the Peak District by Frank Duerden
Reviewer: Mick Wood (mick@wood9.screaming.net) from Chesterfield, England
This book has provided me and my young family with a whole host of walks in the Peak District and through it's informative content has also given us an insight into the culture and history of the areas we have explored so far. The book is structured in a way that you are first given some information on the area and it's history and then are given the walks in descriptive catergories (from easy routes to very strenuous routes). The book's strong point, as I have already mentioned, is the amount of contextual information it provides. Not too much, and not too little, than you require to make your journey interesting. Where this book falls down is in the diagram maps, which are hand drawn. This may appeal to some but in my case they meerly made my route finding that little bit more difficult as I am used to using more detailed O/S maps. That said they did suffice once I had got used to them and that left me to enjoy the cultural and historical information included in the book which only added to the enjoyable walks featured in this book. I was very pleased with this book and the information it holds and would easily suggest it to those not familiar with the Peak District (and even to those who think they are!)
