Dining Pubs in Brackenfield

Plough Inn, Brackenfield

Plough Inn

Brackenfield
Derbyshire

The Plough Inn is situated on the A615 which bypasses Brackenfield. This 16th century Grade II listed stone pub was once a farmhouse. Freehouse with good range of real ales and good food. Well worth a visit.

The prices were reasonable. I had the roast beef sandwich which was very acceptable. My wife had the tuna mayonaise which at least to our American palletes was just aweful. I would love to buy the place and teach brackenfield how to cook.

First impression on entering The Plough Inn for evening meal was very favourable. Nice ambience, pleasant welcoming staff, fine beers. On ordering our meal I was surprised how quickly it arrived. My lasagna was fine but the salad contained tomatoes that were either over-ripe or sliced and left standing for some time. The worst part of the meal however were the chips; lots of them but only about 30% edible, and I suspect they were recycled from lunch-time. I didn't leave a tip and will not be visiting a second time. Observing other diners meals on leaving, I noticed that fresh looking chips had been served. Why serve food in this condition and expect people to return?

I went to The Plough Inn on Sunday night with 5 fellow diners. The pub was clearly set out in a manner which looked to promote the dining experience. However, the first comment that was made by a female member of bar staff towards our party was that there were no tables for six laid up in the dining area. At no stage did the member of staff seek to remedy this situation or offer an alternative. This aside the general attitude and approach to customer service from this member of staff was apalling. It was as if we should be grateful for sitting in the pub at all. This could have been forgotten if it weren't for the fact that my food was totally inedible. It was a Brocolli, Courgette and Mushroom Bake which can only be described as luke warm sloppy vegetables in oil. The cucumber in the side salad had more flavour. My partner's 'Farmhouse Cheddar Ploughmans' was served with again what only can be described as Tescos' value extra mild cheddar, not quite what was advertised. I suggest that The Plough Inn strongly looks at both its chef and serving staff. This was in stark contrast to the superb meal we had in the Miners Arms the previous day where the staff could not be more helpful and the food fantastic. Inevitably, we spent a considerable amount more money in that pub and will be recommending it to many others. Needless to say they got a very generous tip, where as the only tip I would be giving to a prospective customer of The Plough is don't bother.
