Dining Pubs in Brassington

Olde Gate Inn, Brassington

Olde Gate Inn
Well Street
Brassington
Derbyshire
DE4 4HJ
telephone: 01629 540448

The Olde Gate Inn at Brassington has two pub signs. It has a traditional painted sign and also a gate hung at first floor level on the side of the pub. To see this unusual pub sign rollover the image on the left. This oak beamed pub at the top of the village has lots of character and dates back to 1616. It is supposed to be haunted! Good beers. Well worth a visit.

A lovely, cosy, homely, typically English pub, where the German term 'gemütlich' as the all encompassing adjective for all those above springs to one's mind. Staff and publican were very friendly and attentitive. The beef was excellent: tender, still pink and of a natural taste. The vegatables, slightly al dente, would have
benefitted from a touch of herbs. The desert, a Belgian waffle with vanilla icecream and maple sauce was delicious. Prices, esp. for the sweets, seem slightly on the high side. All in all, an excellent pub, worth re-visiting.

This public house personifies what a good, old-fashioned should be. Th publican, and his wife are charming - the food is unique without be 'untraditional' - and REALLY good, by the by! Warm yourself by the fireplaces!! TERRIFIC
