The Quiet Woman pub at Eall Sterndale is reputed to be over 400 years old and was in the occupation of the the Heathcote family for over 300 years. The name is unusual with only two others in the country. It is said to refer to a too talkative woman who was decapitated as a consequence! Traditional and unspoilt , it is a somewhat basic village pub with hard seats and plain tables. There is limited food includes sandwiches and home made pork pies and is included in this guide for its atmosphere. Good range of well kept real ales. Well worth a visit. You can also buy local produce such as cheese and eggs from the pub.
