16:46 16/06/11 great |
06:59 16/06/11 Went to the Duke of York last night for an important anniversary. Friendly greeting, excellent service, wonderful food, good house wine (just one glass as driving). Neither the ambience or the quality or quantity of food has changed over the twenty I have been going to Iddesleigh to eat. My wife says it is a pity some of the old characters are not still around.... but there is is nothing we can do to stop the harvest of time. We left after a very pleasant couple of hours to the sound of bleating sheep and a distance tractor. North Devon at its very best. |
09:29 06/03/11 The best Pub in the world! Lovely food, lovely staff, and you can take your dog in there. Lovely also to pop over to the little craft shop opposite to complete a truly perfect day! |
19:55 12/12/10 We use go to this pub a lot but not for the last couple of years since moving and something very bad has happened. Plates seemed to have got smaller along with the portions. My wife had Port & Stilton Pate which tasted great but was absolutely tiny. No where near enough to cover the 4 pieces of toast served with it. Significantly smaller then we remember. The Big all day breakfast has also shrunk - really should be described as the Average all day breakfast. Disappointed as nowhere near as good as it was. |
22:21 06/09/10 Excellent choice of menu. Food enjoyed by all the family. |
18:42 06/06/10 A very good pub :) |
22:59 27/05/10 This pub is one of the most amazing pubs in Devon. |
15:25 18/03/10 The numbers say it all ! |
15:15 12/02/10 The Duke of York is a magical little country hide a way suprize!I drove 50 miles at Xmas time to meet friends here. The experience was a truely delightful one. The food was splendid, cooked to an amazingly high standard, fantastic choices on the menu, desserts were truely scrumptous!(so delicious I had an extra piece of Banoffee pie to take home!)Staff greeted us with warm friendly smiles + looked after us brilliantly. A truely fabulous evening highly recommended + looking foward to another enjoyable experience there very soon |
23:00 26/12/09 What a shame. Just visited this pub on Boxing Day 2009. Chicken and leek soup and rack of lamb for two, bottle of Cote du Rhone - sounds good, eh? It was horrible. Soup was unseasoned, did not contain any stock, was chunks of tasteless chicken cooked with leeks and mixed with cream, then boiled up. Rack of lamb was fatty, untrimmed, uncut, overcooked - as if the person who produced it had never done it before. Vegetables - spuds, carrots, broccoli etc - were ok -what you'd expect from your mum. I am convinced that there was no chef - a young girl and a whistling cheerful waitress kept whizzing in and out of the grimly silent dining room to the kitchen, bringing first the veg, then one dish , then 5 minutes later another, then another - it was like a farce. It was beyond saving. The bar looked like fun as we walked through, and we should have stayed in it and just had a beer and gone to a chippy or something to eat - the bill for this nonsense was £65.50. I cannot equate the comments about this pub to the experience we had - it was expensive and deeply disappointing. Absolute crap.

14:40 08/12/09 Duke of York is by far the best pub I have ever visited.Food, accommadation hospitality and good beer. What more do you need. |
18:13 09/08/09 I have lived in North Devon for 3 years and The Duke Of York is the jewel in the crown, the best Pub in the world! Wonderful staff, wonderful setting and wonderful food! |
23:29 05/03/09 I have lived in Devon for many years and have regularly visited the Duke of York and enjoyed the supreme hospitality, atmosphere, food, and of course, beers.. Boxing Day is a permanent fixture in my diary (if I had one!) Excellent!! |
21:24 11/01/09 We are currently living in America but are pining right now to be sat fireside with a nice local pint. Waiting for my delicious big meal! We love you Duke of York! |
15:32 08/12/08 The Duke is the Quintessential English village pub, this is why so many people visit our country for pubs like this! Jamie, Pippa and Trevor who these days does so much for this pub are "the mine hosts" the ale is excellent, wines superb, food quality and rooms quirky and comfy although maybe slightly overpriced, but then who cares! i have been going here from plymouth for the best part of 8 years and it is one amazing pub, there are few that come close, The Rugglestone in Widecombe and the Tom Cobley in Spreyton are the only ones i reckon! I will be staying here with my partner on the 27th December 2008 and i can't wait to sit by the fire and have a relaxing weekend! Iddesleigh is probably the most laid back and friendly village just a superb place to go. |
18:53 02/11/08 We finished our walk of part of the Tarka Trail at Iddesleigh. It was great to find a pub serving food at 5 pm. The food, athmosphere and beer were all excellent. When we finish the next walk; we will certainly be eating here. |
15:59 23/10/08 Brought my 88 yr old uncle with us for lunch on 11th October which we all agreed was wonderful. Good atmosphere and felt very welcome. Will be calling again very soon. |

20:41 31/08/08 Very disappointing, food over-priced and unreliable. Owners cold or false bon-homie. Only good thing about it is the locals. |
11:12 17/06/08 Absolutely fabulous. From the moment you arrive to when you leave the staff are great !
The rooms are unique and the food / wine are excellent.

16:44 13/02/05 Lucky for us that we chanced on this excellent inn. We enjoyed the best pub meal we've ever had and at a remarkably low price considering its quality and quantity. In fact, because of the inn and the pretty village, we're thinking of moving there. |
