floor management could do with some improving. we were confused as to where we were meant to sit in the pub to eat, and when we opted to sit in the restaurant, our menus were taken away from us only to be given back to us again later. I can only assume it was because it costs more to eat in the restaurant. My dish came 'served with chips' I counted the grand total of 5.

Arrived at 12.50pm the starters took 35 minutes to arrive, when we wanted to order a dessert and 13.55 they had to check with the kitchen as to whether they could accept the order as they stopped serving at 2.00pm. If it had not been for this would highly recommend it but must admit this has put us off wanting to go back.

Nice pub, nice atmosphere, excellent ale, but very over-priced food.

Recently re-opened after refurbishment - assume what they refurbished was the kitchen as there's little change (thankfully) to the beautiful bar area, but they're going to town as a dining pub with a new and very expensive menu. The results, sadly, were nowhere near up to scratch for the price when I visited. Good beer, though. The problem is that if you want to eat here, you'll struggle to find a cheaper option on the new menu and they have foodie pretensions that they aren't up to.

the royal oak offers both rustic charm, and a high quality menu that few pubs can equal. the service was outstanding, and the food beautifully presented and cooked.
