The 18th century Royal Oak at Car Colston sits on the edge of reputedly the largest village green in England where cattle graze and Sunday afternoon cricket is played. Quality pub food served every day except Monday lunchtime and Sunday evening. Wines from around the world are available by the bottle or glass. Four real ales are available - three house bitters which are Marstons Burton Bitter, Jennings Cumberland Ale, Ringwood Best Bitter & a guest ale all kept in perfect condition (as mentioned in CAMRA's good beer guide). A professionally run pub with high standards.

We keep going back! Sometimes would like more veggie options. One of the loveliest villages in Notts without doubt.

Lovely food. Accepts canine friends in the bar. Very friendly and helpful staff and a fantastic position with views over the largest village green in England

I have eaten her with my family several times and we have always found the food and service good. It is not a huge pub and so sometimes becomes quite crowded. Not much the owners can - r want -do about that though. I regard the Royal Oak as good value for money and a pleasant atmosphere inwhich to dine.

A very pleasant place to lunch. Real pies. Recommended (Dec 2005)

The food was very disappointing. I had roast chicken and roast potatoes. The chicken was very dry and the roast potatoes were fried potatoes with a mushy centre. When we complained to the assistant manager we were told "that's how we cook the food here". Overpriced, below average food!
