The Bear Inn at Berkswell (now a part of the Chef and Brewer chain) dates back to the 16th century. Attractive interior. It was once known as The Bear and Ragged Staff. The pub has had a long standing reputation for the quality of its food and is very much a dining pub. Bar food from sanwiches up also available. Children allowed if eating. Separate restaurant. Garden.

Food is always excellent, good atmosphere, nice 'olde worlde' pub, not detroyed by any Corporate identity.

Had a lovely Saturday lunchtime meal here. Lots of choice on the menu and food tasty and well cooked. Good selection of wine and beers. Staff friendly and service good. Surroundings very quaint and lovely olde worlde atmosphere. Will go again.

Despite previous comments, have always found this place to be very nice, have been many times and always found the food nice, the service friendly and although there has been a wait on a few occasions this was obviously due to a sudden rush. Very nice to relax in a summer evening there.

Had to wait 2 hours for food - ruining what was a very special occasion with table booked for 12. Major shortage of staff. Other tables were complaining bitterly also. A thoroughly upsetting experience - pursuing compensation and don't want to go there ever again.

long wait for service. dirty cutlery. food not very warm. vegetables overcooked - soggy. packet mashed potatoes. large piece of CARDBOARD in amongst monge tout! food generally very poor, anyway. AVOID this place - we'll never be going back.

We had to wait so long we decided to walk out. So I can't comment on the food quality. Pretentious pub with above average prices . 'Choice' of 1 real ale. Dark ambience. Poor service.

This place has gone downhill. Despite booking, one hour wait for food. Table next door complained about size of king prawns and attitude/response by head waiter/deputy manager (?) was apalling giving no apology and slamming bill on table.

Long wait to order, then an even longer wait for food. Starters good, main courses less so. Chips soggy and undercooked. No bread!
Portions rather small, also shortage of accompanying vegetables.
Won't be returning.

can take a while to get food when its busy but more often than not its worth the wait.

Food was average. Portions very small and you can get same quality of food in other pubs at a much lower price in the area. Menu interesting and varied. Duck was a little chewy, tuna steak a little under done but the steak and ale pie was nice and one of our guests enjoyed the chicken , bacon and asparagus. Ambiance was nice and staff polite and friendly. £65 for 5 mains no starters or sweets is overpriced IMHO.

Often a poor culinary experience, the Bear is worth visting for the beer and the ambience.
